Sound and performance artist Regina Carolina has focused her work on using the voice as a means of guiding and giving orders to the audience. The response triggered by the voice is the very force that compels the audience to become actively involved in the piece, thereby ceasing to be mere spectators and becoming co-creators of the work.

Sound commands

Volunteer participants are given headphones through which they receive audio instructions that they must follow strictly and carefully. Their bodies are guided by the artist, allowing them to experience what, amidst the tangles and complexities of personal responsibility and insecurities, would not normally allow themselves to do.

Los Ojitos de Dios: a performance based on the erotic fantasies of the volunteers and guided by the artist through their voice.

Meeting point: through headphones, members of the audience volunteered to take part in seemingly simple activities that fostered a sense of closeness.

besobesobesobesobeso: through the exercise of decontextualization and exhaustion of the groupal kiss, opens the door to encountering otherness and another-self.

Consentí-miento: whilst the volunteer from the audience follows the audio instructions through their headphones, if arousal occurs, the artist will read out the consent form as proof of their sensations.

Intra-psychic journeys

Creates works—primarily with Miguel P. Bachiller—that combine performance, immersive experiences and sound. These works are, in turn, co-created live with the audience. Through a voice guide and the movement prompted by the music, a journey is created in which the listener’s imagination brings the piece to life, thanks to the suppression of sight through the use of blindfolds. A unique journey that evokes images and sensations. Symbolic places that bring forth familiar landscapes, yet are completed by each participant, transforming them into personal and intimate experiences.

PORNO - WOMB: is a performative session exploring the erotic in the xeno-, which seeks to challenge and subvert notions of identity as normative and familiar by exploring desire in non-human bodies and beyond the laws of the physical world.

Deseo x imposibilidad: explores, from a subconscious and performative perspective, the impossibility of desire in late capitalism, creating a delirious and sensitive imaginary universe in which the manifestations of that impossibility can be shared anonymously.

Y siempre con el objetivo de transformar el estatus del público, convirtiéndolo en un parte activa generadora de la pieza.

Besarles y que me besen; besarles y que me besen: esta narración sonora sobre el universo erótico de una mujer bisexual del siglo XIX invita al público a darle el afecto que no pudo recibir en vida.

Alta Factura: dentro de la acción colectiva de esta performance, lx artista Regina Carolina usa el dispositivo digital como la “identidad y voz primera”. La voz propia termina por ser un dispositivo guiado por la configuración digital. Además, lx artista presentó el resto de trajes del desfile performativo.

Other voice pieces

Using the voice as a means of bringing to life a space, a story, an inconsistency, an experience…

And always with the aim of transforming the audience’s role, turning them into an active participant in the creation of the piece.

Kissing them and being kissed; kissing them and being kissed: this audio narrative of the erotic world of a 19th-century bisexual woman invites the audience to offer the affection she was unable to receive in life.

Alta Factura: as part of the collective action in this performance, the artist Regina Carolina uses the digital device as the ‘primary identity and voice’. One’s own voice ultimately becomes a device guided by the digital configuration. Furthermore, the artist presented the rest of the costumes from the performance-based fashion show.

Lx artista sonorx y de performance Regina Carolina ha centrado su trabajo en el uso de la voz como un medio con el que guiar y dar órdenes al público. La activación que produce la voz es la misma fuerza que le obliga a ser partícipe, involucrándose activamente en la pieza y dejando así de ser unx mero espectadorx para pasar a ser co-creadorx de la obra.

Órdenes sonoras

A les participantes voluntarixs se les entregan auriculares desde los que reciben órdenes sonoras que deberán seguir estricta y cuidadosamente. Su cuerpo es guiado por lx artista, permitiéndose experimentar lo que bajo los enredos y complicaciones de la responsabilidad individual y las inseguridades no se ha permitido antes.

Los Ojitos de Dios: performance basada en las fantasías eróticas de les voluntaries y guiada por lx artista a través de la voz.

Punto de encuentro: a través de auriculares, el público voluntario se une en acciones aparentemente naive que despiertan la cercanía.

besobesobesobesobeso: dos horas de besos colectivos y monstruosos. Un ejercicio de descontextualización y agotamiento radical del beso que abre la puerta al encuentro con la otredad y lo extraño.

Consentí-miento: mientras la persona voluntaria del público sigue las órdenes sonoras de los auriculares que le guían para excitar a lx artista, si esto sucede, ellx leerá el texto sobre consentimiento como prueba de sus sensaciones.

Viajes intrapsíquicos

Realiza piezas, —principalmente con Miguel P. Bachiller— que combinan lo performativo, lo inmersivo y lo sonoro. Estas piezas son, a su vez, co-creadas en vivo con el público. A través de una guía por voz y la movilización producida por la música, se genera un recorrido donde la imaginación de le oyente activa la propuesta gracias a la supresión del sentido de la vista con antifaces. Un recorrido único donde se evocan imágenes y sensaciones. Lugares simbólicos que hacen emerger paisajes comunes, pero que son completados por cada participante; convirtiéndose en experiencias personales e íntimas.

PORNO - WOMB: es una sesión performativa de una hora de duración donde se busca trastocar la noción de normatividad y familiaridad de la identidad y del deseo propio, a través de la exploración del deseo en cuerpos no humanos e imposibles.

Deseo x imposibilidad: explora desde un lugar subconsciente y performativo la imposibilidad del deseo en el tardocapitalismo, creando un universo imaginario delirante y sensible en el que poder compartir anónimamente las formas de esa imposibilidad.
